On February 20, 2007, Mayor Jerry Miller joined numerous mayors from around the nation by endorsing the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. With this endorsement, the City of Winona understands the effects of global warming and will promote economic and environmental health throughout the City Of Winona.

To ensure the City fulfills its commitment, Dan Wicka has been appointed as the city’s Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator.

Dan’s office is located in the City Manager’s Office at City Hall, 207 Lafayette. The position reports to the City Manager and oversees both environmental and safety concerns throughout the City of Winona

This position helps to ensure that city employees not only receive all mandated training regulated by OSHA, such as AWAIR, Right-to-Know, Infection Control, etc., but also receive any training that helps to create a safer work environment.

The Environmental, Health and Safety Coordinator reviews all accidents and injuries involving city employees while working for the city. He works as a liaison between the employee and the insurance companies that cover workers compensation claims.
This position also develops and maintains policies and records for drug and alcohol testing and conducts safety inspections of city properties.
