Press Release Regarding Snow Removal

DATE: February 25, 2019

SUBJECT: Snow Removal

Thank you for your patience as we dig out the City of Winona. Snow Removal crews have been operating daily through double shifts. Most of the equipment is out working on the streets during the night hours when traffic is less. Smaller numbers of plows, sanders and dump trucks are working during the daylight hours.

Community members are asked to move vehicles from City streets to assist in the most effective plowing on all routes. This will also ensure public safety vehicles can respond to emergencies in a timely manner. Let this also serve as a reminder that the alternate side parking requirement is in place and vehicles are subject to being ticketed and towed. As the streets get plowed, snow will be piled up on both sides of the street, and any car on the street is likely to be surrounded with a ridge of snow. Having one side of the street empty allows that side of the street to be widened as much as possible. The operations repeat the second night on the other side and are alternated until the streets are clear.

Please do not blow or place snow out into the city streets. This is against city ordinance, and makes snow removal more difficult.
Residents are asked to assist in clearing snow around fire hydrants as they are able. This will assist the emergency response crews should they need to access the hydrants near your home.

Again, thank you for your patience and assistance.
