Updated – Wet Conditions Force Temporary Park and Trail Closures

Winona, MN – Seasonal wet soil conditions mean some parks and trails will close temporarily, according to Assistant Recreation Director, Patrick Menton. The closures will remain in effect until further notice, depending on weather conditions. Using parks with wet or muddy soil conditions can cause serious damage and require costly repairs.

“The City normally closes certain parks and trails in the spring because the ground is not firm enough to support use without causing damage,” said Menton. “We ask that people stay off of these areas because even a little amount of use can permanently destroy the grass or trails and create depressions that, once dry, cause water to pool or erode making conditions worse.”

The City of Winona reminds park and trail users to obey the closures and not go around blockades, posted signs, or tape at the following parks:

TEMPORARILY CLOSED

  • All parks, trails, or fields where the surface may be harmed from use.
  • All ball fields excluding Gabrych Field
  • Bluffside Park / Holzinger Trails, upper and lower
  • Sugarloaf Bluff Park and Trails
  • Gabrych Baseball Field
  • Lake Park Soccer Fields

We ask that people stay off of these areas because even a little amount of use can permanently destroy the grass or trails and create depressions that, once dry, cause water to pool or erode making conditions worse.
