The mission of Winona Parks and Recreation is to provide accessible, flexible, and connected quality parks, facilities, and experiences for all. We have numerous summer job opportunities, including positions with the Bob Welch Aquatic Center, Lake Lodge, East Rec Center, youth and adult sports, and the Friendship Center.   • Interviews will be held April 13th and 14th.
  • Conditional job offers will be made April 17th
  • Deadline to accept offer is April 24th
  • Regular work schedules will begin on or after May 26th.

JOB OPENING INFORMATION

RECREATION FACILITIES: East Recreation Center, Friendship Center, and Lake Lodge

Recreation Assistant – $10.00/hr.

  • Responsible for day-to-day operations of facilities and parks
  • Participate in program implementation
  • Regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to withstand exposure to elements regularly: sun, water, rain, wind, etc.
  • Emphasis placed on superior customer service to Winona residents and visitors
  • All other duties as assigned

Recreation Leader- $11.00/hr.

  • Responsible for day-to-day operations and supervision of Recreation Assistant staff, where applicable
  • Participate in program development and implementation
  • Provide excellent verbal and technical customer service
  • All other duties as assigned

YOUTH AND ADULT SPORTS

Youth Sports Coach – Recreation Assistant – $10.00/hr.

Youth Sport Programs:

    • Pre-K T-ball (3-4 year olds): Tuesday and/or Wednesday evenings
    • T-Ball (5-6 year olds): Monday evenings
    • Instructional Softball (7-9 year olds): Tuesday & Thursday evenings
    • Instructional Baseball (7-9 year olds): Tuesday & Thursday evenings

Youth Sports Coach Responsibilities:

    • Energetically lead drills and activities, teach/ demonstrate skills, and facilitate scrimmages
    • Create and/or assist with practice plans for assigned program(s)
    • Communicate in a positive manner with youth, parents, and co-workers
    • Promote Park Rec philosophy of encouraging active lifestyles, skills development, teamwork, and fun
    • Assists with equipment set-up/ tear-down each practice
    • Follow City safety protocol to ensure safe environment for all participants

Adult Softball Umpire – Official- $22.00 per Game (2-3 games per night)

Co-Rec leagues- Sundays; Women’s league- Mondays; Men’s Leagues- Mondays-Thursdays

    • Maintain standards of the game, ensure Winona Park & Recreation softball rules are followed
    • Use appropriate signals and mechanics
    • Uphold City safety policies, administer minor first aid or respond appropriately to an emergency situation, file accident reports, inspect field conditions and equipment for safety prior to each game
    • Ability to penalize and diffuse unsportsmanlike behavior
    • Maintain high level of professionalism and customer service; attend all required trainings
    • Previous experience playing and/or officiating slow pitch softball, baseball, or fast pitch softball required
    • MSF Umpire certification and CPR/ First Aid certification required (must be willing to obtain after hire – City of Winona will provide training)

Summer Sports Program Leader – Recreation Leader- $11.00/hr (12 hours per week, mid-April- August)

Typical hours T, W, Th 3pm-7pm (includes some flexible office hours)

    • Work with Recreation Coordinator to plan and coordinate youth baseball, and softball programs, including creation of practice plans and season schedule, parent communication, etc…
    • Assist with the training of youth sport coaches
    • Provide work direction and support to youth sport coaches, lead staff meetings
    • Assist with day to day management and supervision of adult softball leagues
    • Organize and keep inventory of program equipment
    • Communicate in a positive manner with youth and adult participants, parents, spectators, and coaches
    • Evaluate and give on-going feedback on staff and program; communicate regularly with Recreation Coordinator
    • Follow City safety protocol to ensure safe environment for all participants
    • Other duties as assigned

BOB WELCH AQUATIC CENTER

Guest Services – Recreation Assistant – $10.00/hr.

  • Responsible for day-to-day operations of the aquatic center from front desk, concessions stand
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks
  • Provide excellent verbal and technical customer service
  • Emphasis placed on creating a welcoming atmosphere
  • All other duties as assigned

Lifeguard – $11.00/hr.

  • Responsible for day-to-day operations and supervision of the pool facility
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks
  • Provide necessary supervision to prevent accidents both in the water and on the pool deck area
  • Adhere to a strict set of guidelines designed to ensure the safest and cleanest environment possible
  • Emphasis placed on maintaining a safe and pleasant swimming environment
  • All other duties as assigned
  • Must possess current Lifeguarding certification

Assistant Swim Instructor – $11.00/hr.

  • Support and assist Swim Instructors with swimming lessons and/or water safety programming
  • Communicate in a positive, appropriate manger with other staff and participants
  • Implement positive behavior management techniques with participants
  • Emphasis placed on teaching both level one (hard skills like breath and movement techniques) and level two skills (soft skills like trust and commitment) to youth participants
  • All other duties as assigned
  • Current Lifeguarding certification desired

Swim Instructor – $12.00/hr.

  • Teach swimming and/or water safety as designed in each specific program
  • Communicate in a positive, appropriate manner with other staff and participants
  • Implement positive behavior management techniques with participants
  • Emphasis placed on teaching both level one (hard skills like breath and movement techniques) and level two skills (soft skills like trust and commitment) to youth participants
  • All other duties as assigned
  • Must possess current Lifeguarding and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification

Water Aerobics Instructor – $11.00/hr.

  • Teaches scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provides adequate warm-up, exercise, stretching, and cool down.
  • Instructs patrons on workout methods and explains proper exercise techniques.
  • Assists patrons, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise environment for all participants.
  • Ensures all safety measures are met.
