Merit Board

Overview

The Merit Board is charged with administering the City of Winona Merit System in accordance with Minnesota Statutes governing civil service municipal merit systems. The Board regularly classifies positions, interviews prospective employment applicants, develops employment promotion and transfer eligibility lists. On occasion the board conducts hearings relative to the suspension or dismissal of an employee pursuant to the Charter of the City of Winona and the Minnesota Human Rights Act under Minnesota Statutes Annotated 363.03.

The Merit Board consists of three members who serve two year terms and are appointed by City Council. Positions open October 14.
